Exclusive: Aston Villa keeper agrees new contract

Aston Villa goalkeeper Filip Marschall has agreed a new deal at the club, sources have told Football Insider.

Football Insider exclusively revealed on 18 December the West Midlands giants had opened talks with the 21-year-old about extending his contract

Now, an agreement has been reached following a breakthrough in talks.

Marschall, who has come through the ranks at Villa, is currently impressing on loan at Crewe Alexandra in League Two this season.

He is highly regarded within the corridors of power at Villa Park after making his first-team debut last November in Bosnia and Herzegovina against Zrinjski Mostar in the Europa Conference League group stage.

Marschall has helped keep nine clean sheets in 25 appearances for Crewe and has been instrumental in their push for promotion this season.

The former England Under-19 international's contract was due to expire in June 2027, but he has now agreed new terms at Villa Park.

Marschall signed his last extension as a 19-year-old in 2022 after returning from a successful loan at Gateshead in the National League.

The goalkeeper has also spent time on loan at MK Dons, where he made seven appearances in League Two last term after joining the club in January 2024.

Ahead of Marschall in the pecking order at Villa Park is Yashin Trophy winner Emiliano Martinez, 32, Sweden international Robin Olsen, 34, and Australia international Joe Gauci, 24.

Villa currently sit fifth in the Premier League table, while Crewe are fourth in League Two after 20 games of the 2024-25 campaign.
