With the summer transfer window now closed, Manchester City have turned their attention to contract negotiations.

Pep Guardiola‘s side have made a perfect start to their Premier League title defence with four wins from four. The only stain on their record is their goalless draw with Inter Milan in their Champions League opener.

Manchester City actually had a fairly quiet transfer window in the summer with only two major signings. Savinho arrived in a £30m move and Guardiola was then reunited with Ilkay Gundogan after he re-joined City as a free agent.

It could easily be argued that City’s squad was actually weakened over the summer after exciting forward Julian Alvarez made a move to Atletico Madrid.

City also came close to losing Ederson after he held talks with Saudi Arabia, but the Brazil international ended up staying put at the Etihad Stadium.

Man City want to resume Ederson contract talks

TBR Football understands that Manchester City want to re-engage Ederson in talks over a new deal.

City rejected offers from the Saudi Pro League with both Al-Nassr and Al-Ittihad willing to make him the highest-paid goalkeeper in world football.

Ederson's camp had opened contract talks before the summer, but then negotiations were paused as the interest from Saudi emerged.

His current deal is set to expire in 2026 but City are eager to tie Ederson down to a new deal.

Why Man City now want to extend Ederson’s contract

City had initially paused contract talks with Ederson and his camp amid interest from the Middle East.

TBR Football understands that City have been waiting to see how the season began for Ederson before choosing to re-open negotiations.

City have also opened contract talks with Rodri amid interest from Real Madrid, and they are willing to hand him wages that would see him join Kevin de Bruyne as the club’s joint highest-paid player.

Ederson has showed no signs of his summer interest affecting him as he has returned to the Etihad in brilliant form this season.

City have conceded just three goals in their opening four league games, with Ederson keeping one clean sheet in their opening clash against Chelsea.
