Jamie Miley is set to return to Newcastle this month from his Newport County loan ahead of a permanent move away from Tyneside, sources have told Football Insider.
A number of League One and League Two clubs are monitoring the 20-year-old situation and are ready to make moves for him during this month’s transfer window.
Miley, the brother of Newcastle teenager Lewis, was heavily involved in the first team in pre-season, but he is unlikely to figure in the immediate plans of Magpies boss Eddie Howe.
He has made eight appearances across all competitions for Newport this term, including six outings in League Two.
The midfielder’s spell at Rodney Parade is his first loan move away from St James’ Park.
Miley was a regular for Newcastle’s Under-18 and Under-21 sides during his development but is now set for more first-team action elsewhere in a permanent switch.
Miley to join new club after Newcastle recall
He joined the Magpies at the age of 11 and signed his first professional contract with his boyhood club in 2022.
The 20-year-old featured in pre-season wins over Hull City and Girona before securing his move to Newport.
Miley is set to follow Newcastle academy products like Matty Longstaff, Joe White and Elliot Anderson in securing a permanent exit from St James’ Park.
The Magpies sit fourth in the Premier League and put one foot in the League Cup semi-final on Tuesday (7 January) with a semi-final first leg win over Arsenal.
