Sunderland are confident of keeping Anthony Patterson this month despite interest from Man United and Tottenham, sources have told Football Insider.

The goalkeeper has attracted strong interest from Premier League clubs as a result of his performances in the Championship under Regis Le Bris.

Patterson has started 22 of his side’s 26 league games and kept eight clean sheets so far, helping his side climb to fourth in the table, just three points off top spot.

His ability with the ball at his feet has impressed a number of top clubs, while his age leaves plenty of room for further development and potential to become the starting goalkeeper for over a decade.

Alongside the Red Devils, Tottenham had also been keeping a close eye on his progress, while sources say a number of top-level clubs have sent scouts to watch him this season.

However, the Black Cats view the 24-year-old as a crucial member of their starting XI and are unwilling to entertain talks over his exit this month.

Sunderland are confident the promise of first-team football and a fight for promotion will be enough to convince the goalkeeper to remain in the North East.

Patterson came through the Academy of Light and is regarded as one of their brightest prospects in recent years, following in the footsteps of England’s Jordan Pickford.

Despite his young age, he has already represented Sunderland’s senior team 145 times across all competitions, establishing himself as their first-choice shot-stopper.

However, there is a feeling that a move to the Premier League would likely see him fall down the pecking order whichever club he went to.

Sources say Patterson is determined to remain the starting goalkeeper to continue his development, and is expected to remain in favour of staying at Sunderland for the immediate future.

The 24-year-old signed a long-term deal at the Stadium of Light in 2023, securing his position until 2028, and the club will demand a high price for his departure.

Everton coughed up £30million to sign Jordan Pickford in 2017, and Sunderland could set Patterson’s price tag at a similar level amid high-profile interest.
