Swansea City and Preston are plotting bids for Barnsley midfielder Adam Phillips, sources have told Football Insider.
Phillips, 26, has caught the eye of several Championship clubs following his impressive performances for Barnsley. He is in the final 18 months of his contract and the club are bracing themselves for interest in the midfielder.
The former Liverpool youngster has netted eight goals and provided five assists for Barnsley so far this season. He’s a central part of the team starting in 19 matches and making 24 appearances in all competitions.
Championship clubs could convince Barnsley star Adam Phillips
Swansea are currently 12th in the Championship and active in the transfer market, having recently submitted a new bid for Wycombe defender Joe Low.
Meanwhile, Preston are sitting 15th in the league, are also looking to strengthen their squad and have been closely monitoring Irish teenage star Warren Davis.
Barnsley’s Phillips has been in outstanding form, contributing two goals and three assists in his last four matches. He has become a crucial player in the team’s push for promotion to the Championship.
They are currently fifth in League One with 42 points and are four points clear of seventh. Phillips is a key figure in manager Darrell Clarke's system.
He joined Barnsley in 2022 from Burnley after an impressive loan spell at Morecambe. Following a stellar debut season, he signed a one-year extension in 2023.
However, with his contract running until 2026, Championship clubs are beginning to circle, and a bid for the midfielder could be on the cards during this transfer window.
