Exclusive: Update on Diogo Jota contract talks

03/20/2025 03:00 AM
Liverpool are reluctant to give striker Diogo Jota a new contract at the club, sources have told Football Insider.
The 28-year-old has proved a good signing since arriving from Wolves in 2020 – but club chiefs feel his regular injuries are holding him back.
Football Insider revealed last month (10 February) that Liverpool are growing frustrated with Jota due to his injury record at Anfield.
The forward is a top target for Saudi Pro League clubs, while Arsenal have also been credited with an interest.
Arsenal and Saudi clubs keen on Jota
Jota’s current Liverpool contract is set to run until June 2027 but it is believed the club are reluctant to offer him renewed terms.
Arne Slot and his recruitment team are weighing up potential targets to improve their front line in the off-season as they seek an upgrade on Darwin Nunez – who is behind Jota in the pecking order.

Jota has made 29 appearances across all competitions this season, but has hit just eight goals and notched three assists.
The Portugal international has missed 15 games through injury this term alone, with muscular problems limiting his involvement for Slot’s side.
He cost £45million when he arrived at Liverpool from Wolves almost five years ago.
Diaz holds Liverpool contract talks
Meanwhile, Football Insider revealed on Tuesday (18 March) that Liverpool have held contract talks with winger Luis Diaz in recent months.
The 28-year-old has just over two years to run on his deal at Anfield after joining from Porto in January 2022.
Diaz has held talks over a renewal on Merseyside but sources say nothing concrete has been worked out at this time.
