Wycombe Wanderers have agreed a deal with Chesterfield for winger James Berry, sources have told Football Insider.

The League One hopefuls have outbid Blackpool to strike a deal with Chesterfield for the highly-rated attacker.

Berry, 24, has been given permission to hold talks with Wycombe over a move to Adams Park.

Wycombe want James Berry to help in their promotion push

The former Liverpool academy player has featured 22 times for Chesterfield this season, with half of those games being starts for the winger.

Wycombe sit just two points behind league-leaders Birmingham, who have two games in hand, and Berry would be brought in to compete with Beryly Lubala, who has struggled for form this season.

The Chairboys finished 10th in League One last season and were not expected to find themselves in with a chance of automatic promotion.

Teams like Birmingham and Wrexham were expected to leave the other clubs trailing in their wake due to their strong financial positions, but Wycombe have been in excellent form.

Adding a dynamic winger like Berry to the equation would be a major coup for the side and he would add some much needed depth to their left-wing.

Rangers attacker Alex Lowry.

The Chairboys have also made a move for Rangers youngster Alex Lowry after his career at Ibrox stalled, as reported by Peter O’Rourke exclusively to Football Insider.

Wycombe are also trying to hang onto to defender Joe Low, after rejecting two bids from Swansea City.

The Blues will face up against Northampton in their next league fixture on Saturday (25 January).

In other news, Walsall have responded to two offers from Wycombe for Jamie Jellis.
