Expert: Newcastle 'doing everything they can' do agree Isak contract

Newcastle United are doing everything they can to tie Alexander Isak to a new contract amid growing interest in his situation.
That is according to former Man United and Sunderland chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game as he exclusively told Football Insider that Eddie Howe is “desperate” for the 25-year-old to commit his long-term future to the club.
This comes after Football Insider revealed on 11 January that the Magpies are set to make renewed efforts to extend his deal beyond the current 2028 expiry date.
Arsenal have been heavily linked with a move for the striker, as Football Insider revealed he is their top target, although Chelsea are now monitoring his performances.
Isak has established himself as one of the most highly-regarded strikers in Europe after scoring 15 goals and picking up five assists in 19 league appearances so far this season.
Another two goals and an assist against Wolves last time out saw him extend his goalscoring run to eight games in a row – and Howe is determined not to lose him.
As things stand, the Magpies value Isak north of £100million and would likely demand a British record transfer fee for him to move on.
Newcastle United determined to agree Alexander Isak contract
Speculation regarding the striker’s future has been seemingly non-stop since the summer, but signing a new deal at St James’ Park would dispel any immediate concerns.
Brown, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, insisted that securing a new contract for their star man would be a massive boost to Howe’s side.
“I think they’ll be doing everything they can to agree a new contract,” he told Football Insider.
“Eddie Howe is going to be desperate to hold on to him beyond the end of the season because he’s so important to how that team plays.
“They’re going to demand a mega fee even if he doesn’t sign a new deal.
“Isak will know the situation and which clubs are interested, and his agents will too.
“So it comes to whether he sees his future at Newcastle or wants to make a bit more money and maybe a step up to somebody like Arsenal.
“I think he’s the best striker in Europe, so he’s going to have no shortage of offers. He could play for anybody he likes.
“So a lot of depends on whether they can convince him that staying is the best thing to do at this stage of his career.”
