Charlotte FC have returned for Newcastle United’s Miguel Almirón after a failed attempt in the summer window, according to Olé.

Last month, Almirón’s agent Daniel Campos stated he had agreed a deal with the MLS side, but the Magpies rejected their $18m bid.

Olé points out Charlotte FC’s summer failure and state they’ll return for the Newcastle player in the winter market.

It’s claimed ‘conversations have continued’, without specifying whether it’s between the two clubs or Charlotte FC and the 30-year-old’s camp.

The Paraguay international has been limited to 283 minutes from nine games this season and his deal expires in 2026. The report states Eddie Howe’s side would be willing to let him leave for around $10m in January.

He arrived at Newcastle from Atlanta United in January 2019 and his past MLS experience would have convinced Charlotte FC to bet on him. They will have to offer Almirón a ‘high salary’ to take him away from the Tyneside club.

According to Olé, Saudi Arabia’s Al-Shabab are also showing interest in the attacker, but he prefers a move to America.

Meanwhile, Almirón’s agent told La Union AM’s Futbol Club that an offer from Saudi Arabia was rejected.

“There was a specific offer from Saudi Arabia, but Miguel Almirón didn’t want to go, I always prioritise sporting matters. They always call me from that market, I tell them that it is a good offer and there we will chat with Miguel,” he said.

The representative claims his client’s preference is to continue in Europe if he were to leave Newcastle in January.

“Newcastle changed the sporting direction of the club and there is no urgency to sell, if there are possibilities, we will see. He went through many cycles at the club and he is an idol,” Campos explained.

“Miguel knows that if there is something, we will listen to him. It was the same coach who kept him when there were proposals, Newcastle are asking a high value for him.

“Miguel wants to stay in Europe, he succeeded there, he has more than 230 games in the Premier League. Everyone wants to get there, he had the opportunity, and he knows how difficult it is.”
