There's a lot to be said about Chelsea's transfer business in recent years.

The Blues have overpaid for plenty of players who have under-delivered in recent years as the likes of Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo and Mykhaylo Mudryk haven't lived up to their pricetags.

However, it hasn't all been doom and gloom at Chelsea in the transfer market.

Chelsea spent £40m on Cole Palmer last summer, and, with the way things are going, that looks like it could be one of the greatest signings in Premier League history.

Speaking on the Soccer A-Z Podcast, Joe Cole has been discussing Palmer and his impact at Chelsea, and he's waxed lyrical about the England international, labelling him a genius who could single-handedly salvage the Todd Boehly era.

Joe Cole hails Cole Palmer

Cole spoke so highly of Palmer and his impact at Chelsea.

The pundit went as far as to label Palmer as a genius, claiming that Pep Guardiola made a massive mistake when selling the £40m man to Chelsea.

"I think he's a genius. There aren't many mistakes that Pep Guardiola has made, but he's definitely made one there," Cole said.

"Absolutely, he is such a good player isn't he? Such a player. The fact that Chelsea got him, that could be the one signing that salvages this ownership group because he held it together last year, and now the team looks good around him."

What Gianfranco Zola has said about Cole Palmer

Joe Cole isn't the only Chelsea legend to be enamoured by Cole Palmer's exploits at Chelsea this season.

Indeed, the great Gianfranco Zola has also been full of praise for Palmer.

"I am very impressed because he is doing amazing things," said Zola.

"He has been doing amazing things since last season and this season.

"As I said, he is probably one of the players that surprised me the most because I saw the qualities straightaway. But I didn't see all of this coming. This is all down to him and the people that have coached him and helped him.

"He is doing amazing things there. He needs to continue because he is becoming a sensational player. He has the ability to entertain. He always produces good passes. Very good assists. What I love about him is that when he receives the ball, he is looking up and many times he has the pass in mind before he receives the ball. This is a quality only big players have. I am impressed."

Make no mistake about it, Palmer is establishing himself amongst the very best players on the planet, and he's well on his way to superstardom.

Unfortunately, England haven't quite figured out how to get the best out of Palmer yet, but if the Chelsea star continues to play as he has been, Thomas Tuchel could end up building his entire Three Lions team around Palmer.

Palmer could end up going down as one of Chelsea's greatest-ever players when all is said and done.
