Chelsea look to have seriously improved this season under Enzo Maresca.

Of course, it's early days, but statement wins against the likes of Brighton and Wolves in recent weeks have been impressive, and the Blues are the top scoring side in the Premier League.

A lot of the Blues' good fortune as of late has been down to one man, Cole Palmer.

The England international has been smashing it this season, bagging seven goals already, including four in a single game against Brighton on Saturday.

Speaking on the BBC Planet Premier League Podcast, Cesc Fabregas has been discussing Palmer's time at Chelsea, and he says that the 22-year-old was underrated last season due to how poorly Chelsea were playing as a whole.

Cole Palmer was underrated last season

Fabregas spoke about the £40m man, claiming that he was underrated last season due to Chelsea's performances as a whole.

"This year things are getting better, but last year it was a difficult moment for Chelsea, and people respect more what he does," Fabregas said.

"Nobody really realised, every now and then you would see on a Saturday, a goal from Cole Palmer but they lost, an assist for Palmer but they lost.

"Nobody got it all together that he was doing really well, but Chelsea are in Europe this year and a big percentage of that is because of Cole Palmer's performances last season, he was outstanding."

Cole Palmer was somehow underrated

It sounds ridiculous to say it about the PFA Young Player of the Year, but there is a case to make that Palmer was underrated last season.

22 goals in a struggling Chelsea team is a ridiculous return, and the fact that Palmer didn't start for England at the Euros just goes to show how his performances weren't respected as much as they perhaps should have been.

Of course, everyone knew that Palmer was one of the better players in the Premier League last season, but make no mistake about it, the Chelsea star is now one of the best players in the world.
