Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate has admitted it’s “good to be back” after making his return from injury in their 2-2 draw with Man United.

The 25-year-old played the full ninety minutes for Arne Slot’s side as the spoils were shared between the two old rivals at Anfield.

Konate had been out of action since Liverpool’s 2-0 Champions League win over Real Madrid in November after picking up a knee injury and subsequently missing their next nine games.

Lisandro Martinez opened the scoring for the visitors, making the most of some lax positioning from Trent Alexander-Arnold and powering past Alisson in the Liverpool goal.

Cody Gakpo equalised for Liverpool just seven minutes later with a classy finish from a tight angle before Mohamed Salah gave his side the lead from the penalty spot.

In-form Amad Diallo then made it 2-2 in the 80th minute to earn a much-needed draw for Ruben Amorim’s struggling side.

Ibrahima Konate’s return is a huge boost for Liverpool as the title race heats up

The big centre-back was key for Liverpool before the injury, starting 17 of his 19 games across all competitions, scoring two goals, and providing one assist in his 1514 minutes of action.

Konate was clearly delighted to make his return despite the disappointing result, taking to Instagram to say: “Good to be back out there with the boys. We focus on the next one.”

Slot’s side remain six points clear at the top of the Premier League table, sitting on 46 points from a possible 60 with a game in hand over closest rivals Arsenal and Nottingham Forest.

Liverpool will travel to North London to face Tottenham on Wednesday (January 8) for their League Cup semi-final as they seek to retain the trophy they won last season.
