Tottenham Hotspur pick up their Europa League action on Thursday for their third game in the new format of the European competition.

Ange Postecoglou‘s side returned from the international break with a bang after beating West Ham United emphatically.

And it has been the perfect start for Tottenham in the Europa League with victories in their opening two games in the competition.

The Lilywhites sit third in the Europa League table but will perhaps face their biggest test yet when Eredivisie side AZ Alkmaar visit north London.

One day out from the game in N17, Spurs fans have been handed some potentially concerning news to come out of Hotspur Way.

Heung-min Son injury update

On Wednesday morning, Tottenham held their open training session for the media but there was no sign of Heung-min Son.

The South Korean captain returned from injury on the weekend against West Ham and provided a goal in the win over the Hammers.

So the 32-year-old’s absence will come as a major concern to fans who will be worried the forward has aggravated his initial injury issue.

Son was hailed for his display against West Ham by Spurs legend Graham Roberts but he now appears to be a doubt for the game on Thursday.

However, there was some positive news to come from the open training session with Wilson Odobert spotted back in training.

The summer signing has been out of action for over a month now having sustained a thigh injury in the Carabao Cup game against Coventry City.

And that was Odobert’s last start for Tottenham which came five weeks ago against the Championship outfit.

Wilson Odobert could provide Heung-min Son replacement

Postecoglou has admitted Son was never in line to play on Thursday but did leave Saturday’s game feeling slightly sore.

Tottenham do have options to replace Son with the likes of Timo Werner and even Mikey Moore.

However, the Europa League could provide Odobert with the perfect opportunity to return to action rather than the upcoming Premier League game against Crystal Palace.

Odobert has already impressed Postecoglou in Tottenham training despite still looking to get off the mark in a Spurs shirt.

And the Frenchman could provide a boost to the out-of-form James Maddison with Odobert forming a good relationship with the midfielder.

Son was left impressed by the ‘very impressive’ Odobert with the winger potentially set to replace him against the Dutch outfit on Thursday night.
