Man United have raised their asking price for Marcus Rashford following his England call-up, according to their former chief scout.

Mick Brown, who spent over a decade at Old Trafford during the club’s most successful period and remains very well-connected there, exclusively told Football Insider that the 27-year-old looks set to make a permanent move in the summer.

As a result, United are keen to make the most money possible from his sale and are looking to drive up his asking price amid growing interest.

Brown previously told Football Insider that United could accept cut-price bids for Rashford – but his performances for Villa will allow them to demand a higher fee.

This comes after Thomas Tuchel named the forward as a surprise selection in his first England squad off the back of his impressive start to his life at Aston Villa.

Football Insider first revealed Rashford was in line for an England recall on 25 February amid concerns about Phil Foden and Jack Grealish which saw the latter miss out.

Tuchel is said to have been impressed with the forward’s performances since his move to Villa Park, while the limited left-sided options opened the door for his return.

Man United demand ‘high’ Marcus Rashford fee after England twist

Both Barcelona and Bayern Munich have been watching Rashford with a potential summer move in mind, while Aston Villa want to agree a permanent move.

Now, Brown, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment and also worked as a scout for the likes of Villa, West Ham and Tottenham, has insisted United are prepared to increase his price tag in an attempt to raise more funds.

Man United are going to demand a high fee for him,” he told Football Insider.

“Their asking price has increased after he was recalled into the England squad.

“I said when he went to Villa that the move would be a win-win-win situation for the three of them, and I think that has been proven already.

“Villa have benefited from his impressive performances, he’s been allowed to show what he can do, and now Man United can benefit from his sale.

“They’ve got the best out of a bad situation at United, really.

“It looked like they’d have to sell him on the cheap, but his value has only gone up.

“With the interest from Villa and from abroad, and a place in the England squad showing how highly-rated he is, it will allow them to drive up his asking price.

“I think it’s likely he will leave Man United in the summer, but they want to make the most money possible from that sale.”

Ruben Amorim leading push to sign Viktor Gyokeres

The sale of Rashford this summer could bring in much-needed funds for United to reinvest into Ruben Amorim’s squad as the money would represent pure profit.

Following what has been another disappointing season at Old Trafford, United are aiming to back the manager in key positions in the transfer market.

One of those positions is at striker, as Brown told Football Insider that Man United are still looking at Viktor Gyokeres – with Amorim the driving force behind their interest.

Meanwhile, the 26-year-old is also said to be keen on a reunion with his former boss, under whom he thrived following a move from Coventry City in 2023.
