Jack Grealish will be welcomed back to Aston Villa “in a heartbeat” and should be looking to leave Man City, Darren Bent has said.

The winger has struggled for opportunities in Pep Guardiola’s side so far this season, starting just six of their 20 Premier League games since the start of the campaign.

It also appears as though the 29-year-old is now facing a battle with summer signing Savinho for a place in the starting XI.

Bent therefore feels as though the England international now ought to be looking to move on from Man City following a successful spell at The Etihad.

Speaking about Grealish’s situation on talkSPORT, the former Tottenham and Aston Villa striker said: “He’s got to get back to the point now Jack of playing week in week out, he’s 29-years-old, 30 in September, he need to go somewhere now where he’s going to play week in week out.

“When he was at Villa we saw the best of Jack because he was playing every single week he was at it. Even in yourself as a player, you need that run of games that consistency to get your best form.

“The moment Jack is in and out in and out playing a game here we’ll never see the best of him, he has to play week in week out and if that’s not at City, I think he’s done more than enough to go ‘Manchester City I’ve loved my time here, but I think now is the time for me to go elsewhere.'”

Grealish was given a frosty reception when he played at Villa Park with Man City earlier this season, but Bent does not believe that would be an issue if he returned to the Midlands long-term.

After being asked where he thinks Grealish should go if he does leave the Etihad, Bent added: “Do you know what, I’d like to see him go back to Villa, I would. I just think that’s his home, I know the supporters are quite hurt by the way that he left even though he went to City to better himself.

“But I think going back to Villa, I mean they’ll have him back. Even the ones that are on the fence, if he puts in one or two performances for them, they’ll have him back in a heartbeat.”

As Bent says, Grealish has won just about everything he could possibly want to during his time at the Etihad Stadium so far.

He should therefore not feel as though he is missing out or leaving any business unfinished if he does depart Man City in the near future.

Indeed, the winger is a player who needs to play regularly and that is simply not happening for him with Pep Guardiola’s side right now.

It also feels hard to see that situation changing anytime soon and so a move away may be the best thing for his career now.

Swapping Man City for Aston Villa would be an appealing move for him as well since it would allow him to make a return to his boyhood club, while they are playing at a very high level.

That could therefore still bring about some big opportunities for him in his career, and he may also want to improve relations with the fanbase after the reaction he got when playing against them recently.
