Tottenham ace James Maddison has taken to social media to celebrate their progression to the League Cup semi-finals after their dramatic 4-3 win over Man United on Thursday (December 19).

The 28-year-old played 79 minutes at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium before being replaced by young Lucas Bergvall with the score at 3-2.

Dominic Solanke was in the right place at the right time to open the scoring after 15 minutes, latching on to Altay Bayindir’s parry from Pedro Porro’s initial shot.

Dejan Kulusevski doubled their lead just after half-time before Solanke got his second to make it 3-0, promoting Ruben Amorim to make some changes.

Joshua Zirkzee and Amad Diallo both came off the bench and made it 3-2 but Spurs captain Heung-Min Son scored directly from a corner to effectively end any hopes of a Man United comeback.

Veteran defender Johnny Evans got one back in added time but it was too little too late and Tottenham progressed to the semis.

James Maddison in mission to end Tottenham trophy drought after progressing to League Cup semi-finals

Maddison has been a key player for Ange Postecoglu so far this season, starting 17 of his 23 appearances across all competitions, scoring seven goals, and providing five assists in 1415 minutes of action.

Spurs haven’t lifted a trophy since their League Cup triumph 16 years ago, but Maddison appears intent on ending that drought.

The attacking midfielder took to Instagram to celebrate Tottenham’s win over Man United and their progression to the semi-finals, saying: “Semi finals: Unlocked.”

Postecoglu’s side will have to beat holders Liverpool across two legs if they’re to progress to the final, with Newcastle playing North London rivals in the other semi-finals.

Tottenham face Liverpool in a prelude to their League Cup clash in the Premier League on Sunday (December 22), knowing that a win could take them as high as sixth.
