Rangers captain James Tavernier took to social media to praise teammate Cyriel Dessers after it was revealed the club are looking to cash in on the striker.

Football Insider revealed (January 18) that Rangers would be willing to accept a “major offer” for the 30-year-old in the January transfer window.

It’s understood the club view Dessers as a "sellable asset" as the Glasgow giants seek to generate much-needed funds.

Well-placed sources have told Football Insider that the Nigerian will not be happy playing second fiddle to Hamza Igamane, which has been the case for the majority of this season.

Dessers scored a hattrick in Rangers’ comprehensive 5-0 Scottish Cup win over Fraserburgh on Sunday (January 19), alongside goals from Clinton Nsiala and Ross McCausland.

Tavernier, on the other hand, has been key, starting 27 of his 31 games across all competitions, scoring three goals, and providing seven assists in his 2443 minutes on the field.

The right-back took to Instagram to celebrate the win over Fraserburgh, singling Dessers out for praise after his impressive performance.

Rangers will travel south of the border for a crucial Europa League game against Premier League giants Man United on Thursday (January 23).

Attention will then return to the Scottish Premier League on Sunday (January 26) as they seek to gain ground on league leaders Celtic.
