Tottenham Hotspur advanced to the fourth round of the EFL Cup last night as they picked up a 2-1 win against Coventry City.

Ange Postecoglou’s side were 1-0 down heading into the final stages of the clash but managed to net two late goals to spare blushes.

With that said, speaking post-match, Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp questioned Postecoglou’s team selection.

Jamie Redknapp can’t fathom why Ange Postecoglou’s team selection

Speaking on Sky Sports, Redknapp couldn’t understand why Son Heung-min and James Maddison didn’t start and noted that Spurs got away with one.

“I struggle with managers leaving out some of the big names players,” the 51-year-old said.

“I don't understand why [it's not] 'let's play Son, let's play Maddison' if things go well and you're 1-0 or 2-0 up and you want to bring on fresh legs, I get that.

“But this was always going to be a tough game, it was always going to be a banana skin because of what Coventry have done over the years.

“It was a really difficult game for them and the team he picked gave them a problem in the first place. They got away with one.”

Ange Postecoglou will hope it’s a turning point

Whilst Tottenham were certainly well below par for much of the encounter, Postecoglou will be hoping last night’s win is a turning point.

The North Londoners play host to Brentford on Saturday and it feels like another must-win game to take the pressure off the Australian head coach.
