Liverpool will be eager to maintain their momentum when they host West Ham United at Anfield on Wednesday night.

The Reds have won five of their six games in all competitions this season, which includes a 3-0 thrashing of Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Admittedly, Liverpool did stumble in their shock loss to Nottingham Forest at Anfield, but they made amends by winning at AC Milan and then thrashing Bournemouth.

Now, Arne Slot’s charges will look to reach the fourth round of the League Cup, though they’ve got a tricky tie against a Premier League rival.

Liverpool will likely have an eye on Saturday’s Premier League trip to Wolverhampton Wanderers, so there’s a good chance Slot may make some changes.

Now, journalist David Lynch has relayed an update which suggests one of Liverpool’s most exciting academy gems could be in action on Wednesday night.

Trey Nyoni ‘should’ now be in Liverpool squad for West Ham clash

Trey Nyoni has been making waves at Liverpool of late, with the Reds media team asking Slot whether the 17-year-old could be involved soon.

Now, Lynch has taken to X to explain why Nyoni now “should” be with the Liverpool first-team for the meeting against the Hammers.

The Reds Under-21s were in EFL Trophy action on Tuesday night, drawing 1-1 away at Harrogate Town, and Nyoni was not in the squad.

Who is Liverpool prodigy Trey Nyoni?

Trey Nyoni is a footballer who plies his trade as a midfielder and joined Liverpool’s academy in 2023 after signing from Leicester City.

The 17-year-old made his Liverpool first-team debut on 28 February 2024, coming on as a substitute for Harvey Elliott, in a 3-0 FA Cup win against Southampton.

Nyoni shone in pre-season and received praise from Anfield hero John Barnes.

"I thought all of the youngsters who came on in the second half did us proud, from Koumas, Nyoni who came on in the first-half was very impressive, he's only 17," Barnes said after the Real Betis game in pre-season.

"Also the thing about him that I saw. A lot of players at his age would play it safe and go backwards, but he looked forward, and when there were tight angles to play between people he plays it, he plays with maturity."

What did Slot say about Nyoni?

Slot told the Liverpool media team ahead of the West Ham game: “Let's see first how everybody comes in this morning and then we make a plan for every individual, where he is going to play and if they are going to play.

“The way I look at it now, it would be a fair chance for him to be in our squad instead of being with the U21s, but it also depends on how fit all the other players are.”
