Celtic are looking to strengthen their midfield options during the summer transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider's Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O'Rourke revealed that Guingamp midfielder Kalidou Sidibe could be an option for the Scottish giants.

The 26-year-old has had a good season for the club and is a commanding defensive midfielder standing at six foot seven inches.

Celtic are a different team without Callum McGregor in the defensive midfield role, and the Hoops struggled without him during the recent Old Firm derby which they lost 3-2.

Rangers managed to run through Celtic’s midfield and with McGregor coming to the latter stages of his career, Brendan Rodgers wants to secure further strength in depth.

Sidibe is also able to play as a centre-back which makes him even more appealing as a potential signing.

Kalidou Sidibe could be tempted with a move

Sidibe came through the PSG academy and has played regularly at club level in France ever since.

The defensive midfielder is out of contract at Guingamp next summer, making this window their last chance to cash in on him unless a new deal can be arranged.

That means Celtic might be able to secure his services on a cut-price deal which would make him even more appealing to the club.

Celtic are plotting a busy summer

Celtic have had an impressive season by running away with the Scottish Premiership while they also put together a decent European campaign as well.

That is why the club are set to be busy in the summer window as Rodgers has called on the ownership to strengthen the squad in a bid to help them push to the next level next season.

Celtic fans have also urged the club to back Rodgers financially to allow him to make the necessary improvements to the squad, with Kieran Tierney already confirmed as a new signing.
