Keith Wyness drops Mikel Arteta sack warning at Arsenal

Everton's former chief Keith Wyness has claimed Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta may be told silverware is “expected” in the 2025-26 campaign in a surprise sack warning.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider's Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – insisted sack pressure “is starting to build for Arteta, but is not immediate”.
The 42-year-old recently celebrated five years in charge at the Emirates Stadium, but hasn’t won a major trophy since the FA Cup in 2020.
Arsenal ran Man City close for the title in each of the last two seasons but have been able to pressure runaway leaders Liverpool this term as they sit six points behind the Reds – who also have a game in hand.
Arteta is under contract until June 2027 after signing a new three-year deal in September 2024.
‘Pressure is starting to build for Arteta’ at Arsenal, says Wyness
When asked about potential sack pressure for the Spaniard, Wyness told Football Insider's Insider Track podcast: "It's difficult.
"He's turned Arsenal around in a great way and had some great patches of games, results and style of play.
"I think the fans have been very happy with the style. He's a talented manager, but at this level – and with an owner like Kroenke – silverware matters.
"I don't think there is pressure on Mikel yet, but it'll be coming fairly soon.
"At the end of the season, they'll review what's happened – and he may be told that silverware is expected next year.
"They've still got a chance for this season. The Saka injury is a big blow, but with a good January they can still finish strongly.
"The pressure is starting to build for Arteta, but it's not immediate."
