'Leggy': Pundit says three Man Utd players really don't suit Ruben Amorim's style of play

Ruben Amorim has a serious job on his hands at Manchester United.
The Red Devils are way off the pace at the moment, and if Amorim wants to change things at Old Trafford, he needs to be ruthless in implementing his own style of play.
Amorim's style at Sporting was very much based around energy. His team was packed full of runners and players who could cover ground quickly.
Unfortunately, Manchester United aren't necessarily blessed with those types of players.
Indeed, this United squad lacks a lot of pace and energy, and speaking on the Optus Sport Football Podcast, Michael Bridges has named three players who he believes really don't suit Ruben Amorim's style of play.
The three Manchester United players who don't suit Ruben Amorim's style
Bridges spoke about Amorim's first game in charge of United.
The pundit says that Christian Eriksen, Casemiro and Jonny Evans all don't suit Amorim's style.
"Eriksen and Casemiro and Evans, they do look a bit leggy for his style," Bridges said.
"They don’t scream intensity, do they?
"No, exactly, but the players that are coming, we saw another chance, you got Mason Mount coming back, we saw Hojlund has got the energy levels, Zirkzee is a young lad that’s got, Luke Shaw looked a lot better. And Ugarte in that midfield when he came on, I mean, I’m very surprised he didn’t start, obviously you don’t know what’s going on with the travel and things in the international break. But there is players that I think can step into this system."
Manchester United's slowest players
It's not a surprise to hear these three singled out of criticism.
Indeed, Amorim's style is all about energy and speed, and these three are statsictially three of United's slowest players.
In fact, according to The Speeds Database, these three are amongst the five slowest outfield players at United right now.
Manchester United’s slowest players | Top speed (km/h) |
Kobbie Mainoo | 27.6 |
Casemiro | 29.8 |
Harry Maguire | 30.1 |
Christian Eriksen | 30.2 |
Jonny Evans | 30.9 |
Casemiro's pace has been a problem for a while at Old Trafford, while Johnny Evans and Christian Eriksen's lack of speed is understandable given their age.
Kobbie Mainoo's pace has also been criticised in recent times, and, as the stats show, he is United's slowest player, so perhaps that's something that could set alarm bells ringing at some point.
One thing is for sure, if Amorim is to succeed at United, he needs to inject more intensity into this team.
Sadly, Casmiro, Evans and Eriksen aren't the answer to United's ongoing problems.
