Brighton captain Lewis Dunk took to social media to celebrate a good week after their 3-1 Premier League win over Man United on Sunday (January 19).

The 33-year-old was imperious at the back, winning 100 per cent of his tackles, 100 per cent of his aerial duels, and three clearances.

Yankuba Minteh opened the scoring just five minutes in after Kaoru Mitoma selflessly laid him off, allowing him to easily slot the ball beyond Andre Onana in the Man United goal.

Man United captain Bruno Fernandes made it 1-1 from the penalty spot following Carlos Baleba’s rash challenge on Joshua Zirkzee, sending Bart Verbruggen the wrong way.

Joao Pedro briefly made it 2-1 in the 53rd minute but his goal was ruled after Jan Paul van Hecke was deemed to have fouled Diogo Dalot in the build-up.

Mitoma and Minteh combined once again, this time the Gambia international sent in a lofted cross, allowing his fellow winger to tap in from close range.

Georginio Rutter secured all the points for Brighton, making the most of Onana’s howler and poking the ball into the back of the net in the 76th minute.

Lewis Dunk leading by example as Brighton put poor run of form behind them

The defender has been key for Brighton so far this season, starting 15 of his 17 games across all competitions, and failing to make a goal contribution in his 1381 minutes of action.

Brighton have seemingly put a rough patch of form being them, winning their last three games across all competitions having previously gone eight without a win.

Dunk took to Instagram after the win at Old Trafford to commemorate what has been a fantastic week, saying: “What a week!! Top effort from the whole group with three away wins and amazing support at all three too. Safe trip home seagulls.”

Brighton’s win over United takes them up to ninth, just four points off Man City in fourth as they continue their charge toward European qualification.

Fabian Hurzeler’s side will have nearly a full week’s rest before their next Premier League game, a visit from David Moyes’ Everton on Saturday (January 25).
