Liverpool are not currently planning to make a move for Joshua Kimmich this year, while Manchester City and Barcelona are in the race for his signature, according to reports in Germany.

The Bayern Munich star is out of contract at the end of the season and his future beyond June remains undecided.

The 29-year-old remains an important part of the Bayern side, making 18 Bundesliga starts this season and six more in the Champions League.

The Bavarian giants are keen to keep hold of the 97-cap Germany international, but he is keeping his options open for now.

Sky Germany report that there is ‘concrete interest’ from the Premier League and La Liga, with Manchester City and Barcelona near the front of the queue if Kimmich is to leave.

However, the report suggests that Liverpool are unlikely to try and tempt the German to Anfield as central midfield is no longer a priority for them.

Depending on what happens with the three Reds superstars who are out of contract this summer – Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold – the club may well have to strengthen elsewhere.

While no decision has been reached, the Sky report states that Kimmich remaining with Bayern is the most likely outcome, with his family settled and minded to stay in Bavaria.

Kimmich has also made it clear that a new deal with Bayern is very much an option, although until he signs a contract then speculation will continue.

Speaking earlier this month, the former RB Leipzig man spoke glowingly of manager Vincent Kompany, saying: ‘The likelihood of me staying is much greater than it was in the summer because I can see how we are playing football. That also has a lot to do with the coach.

‘All of Germany can see that we are playing football in a different way. It looks much better. It’s fun in training and on the pitch.

‘Of course there are many, many good reasons to extend the contract. For me, it’s a fundamental decision. It’s about where you can be most successful in the next three to four years.’
