Man United may not need to dread the return of Jadon Sancho as much as initially thought, given the lift it might actually give the club.
Those at Old Trafford will have assumed the winger’s connection with the club had come to an end last summer when he joined Chelsea on loan with an obligation to buy – provided the London side finished 14th or above.
That came after Sancho had fallen out with then Man United manager Erik ten Hag, having struggled to make an impact on the side.
But despite that, there is a growing chance that the 24-year-old could find himself back with the Red Devils come the end of the season.
Chelsea could back out of Jadon Sancho transfer
Although Chelsea have an obligation to buy the winger, it has been The i have reported that the club are considering backing out of that deal.
To do so, they would have to pay a significant financial penalty, although history suggests Chelsea would not hesitate to do so to avoid signing Sancho.
Should that be the case, it is hard to imagine many connected with his parent club would be pleased to see the winger back at Old Trafford.
Since his exit, Sancho has been seen taking digs at Man United on social media, in a damning indictment on the relationship between the player and the club.
Yet despite that, having the former Man City youth man back as part of Ruben Amorim‘s squad come the summer may not be the worst thing for them.
Man United could benefit from brief reunion
This update on the future of Sancho states that the Red Devils do indeed not want him back, and are planning for life without him next season.
As a result, if Chelsea do pay a penalty to cut short his loan spell, there is a good chance he will then be sold by Man United in the summer.
If that is the case, then there could be two financial windfalls brought into Old Trafford in the coming months: one from Chelsea backing out of the deal, and one from a sale to another club.
Jadon Sancho record for Chelsea | Total (as per Transfermarkt) |
Appearances | 29 |
Goals | 2 |
Assists | 6 |
Yellow Cards | 1 |
Red Cards | 0 |
Minutes PLayed | 1,732 |
Of course, the financial troubles around the Red Devils have been well documented, and yet despite those issues, plans have recently been announced for a new stadium to replace Old Trafford.
That has raised serious questions about how Man United will both pay for those works and invest in the squad going forward.
Consequently, the club are going to need as much income as they can generate, given such a below-par season has shown a desperate need to improve the playing staff with serious investment when the transfer window reopens.
With that in mind, a brief return to the club in the summer for Sancho that opens the door for them to take money off both Chelsea and a subsequent buying club would not be the worst thing for Man United.
Granted, it will be easier said than done finding a permanent taker but if they can do so two trips to the bank are not to be sniffed at in their current predicament.
