Manchester United are remarkably being spoken about as potential relegation candidates at this moment in time.

A terrible start to the 2024/25 campaign under Erik ten Hag has taken a dark turn with Ruben Amorim at the helm, as the Red Devils suffer three consecutive Premier League defeats – leaving them only seven points above the relegation zone.

Not since 1974 have Manchester United been relegated – and it would be one of the most seismic moments in football history if it happened again this season – but just how perilous could the situation look once February comes around?

Manchester United face four tricky tests and a potential banana skin across next five Premier League fixtures

That seven-point gap between Manchester United and the relegation zone could well become thinner across the next month.

Amorim faces a daunting trip to Anfield in his next Premier League fixture, where Arne Slot and his Liverpool side – who have only suffered one defeat this season – await.

Manchester United then welcome Southampton to Old Trafford in what could be a potential banana skin for the Red Devils – the Saints sit bottom with just six points, and will come into that game with the pressure off as firm underdogs.

After that, a tough test against Brighton at Old Trafford follows, a side who have already defeated Manchester United by a 2-1 scoreline at the Amex Stadium this season back in August.

Manchester United must then travel to Craven Cottage to face a Fulham side who have already taken points from Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham, Newcastle and Nottingham Forest this season.

Ruben Amorim must put an end to Crystal Palace hoodoo

The last of these five fixtures comes against Crystal Palace at Old Trafford, where the Eagles have won three of the last five Premier League meetings between the two sides, also recording a 4-0 thumping of the Red Devils at Selhurst Park last season.

As you can see, relegation fears may intensity at Manchester United before they ease, with the next five Premier League fixtures looking quite tricky for Amorim – who could be reunited with Nuno Mendes soon.
