Mentor 'would love' to superstar at Arsenal – Sounds like big Gunners transfer advantage

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has used Kai Havertz to lead his side’s attack, with Gabriel Jesus providing cover.

The Brazilian has one goal [in the EFL Cup] from 15 matches this season. Jesus has been linked with a move away from the Premier League side. They are said to be looking at a new striker next year.

As covered to Fotboll Direkt, former Arsenal star Anders Limpar ‘would love’ to see Arteta’s side sign Sporting striker Viktor Gyökeres.

The 26-year-old Sweden international, who previously had spells in England at Brighton & Hove Albion and Coventry City, has starred since joining Sporting in July 2023.

He scored 23 goals and registered four assists from 18 games this season. It includes a hat-trick in his side’s 4-1 Champions League win over Manchester City.

Limpar, who won the title with Arsenal in 1991, knows Gyökeres personally and is pleased to see his compatriot impress at the highest level.

“I know Gyökeres very well personally, I was a bit of a mentor for him when he played for Brommapojkarna, he and Ludwig Augustinsson. So, I’ve talked a lot about professional life with him. He’s a fantastically hardworking forward who scores a lot of goals,” he said.

The former Gunners man is optimistic of Gyökeres succeeding in the Premier League, if he were to make a move. He also expects the frontman to call him if Arsenal come forward to sign the Sporting star.

“If we at Arsenal [were to] buy Gyökeres, then he will definitely call me. But then to see Gyökeres at Arsenal, that would be crazy,” Limpar explained.

“His work rate, he runs like a madman. When it doesn’t work out Viktor, he works his way into the game with uncomfortable runs.

“When other top forwards aren’t doing well, they don’t work so hard for the team, they save their energy, Viktor never saves his energy. When things are a bit slow, he works his way into a game with runs, that’s why it has gone so well.

“Then we have to remember that the Portuguese league is inferior to the Premier League, but when Manchester City came to visit Lisbon, he scored a hat-trick, so he’s fully capable of scoring in England, he has played for Coventry and scored goals, he knows the English mentality.”

“I think his next step is to play in the Premier League and he can really choose which team he wants to play in.”
