'My latest information': David Ornstein names the striker Arsenal want to sign more than any other
Today at 06:45 AM
Arsenal have needed a new striker for a long time now.
12 months ago, Arsenal were linked with Ivan Toney, while Benjamin Sesko was a concrete Arsenal target over the summer.
However, as of yet, Arsenal still haven't signed a new number nine with the last out-and-out striker signing at the Emirates being Gabriel Jesus in 2022.
Arsenal have looked at strikers in January. Dusan Vlahovic is a target, while Jonathan David has been linked to Arsenal too.
However, according to David Ornstein, speaking on the Sky Sports Back Pages Podcast, there's another striker Arsenal really want.
Alexander Isak is Arsenal's top striker target
Ornstein shared what he knows about the striker situation at Arsenal.
The journalist says that Arsenal will not pursue Dusan Vlahovic this month, and that the real top target in north London is Alexander Isak.
It was claimed this week that Arteta isn't too keen on Isak, but Ornstein has heard otherwise.
"They’ve been linked with Dusan Vlahovic. My latest information is that’s not looking like one that Arsenal are going to pursue, but let’s see how things go in the couple of weeks ahead with a number of options that I’m sure they’ll have. They like Benjamin Sesko historically, but I don’t expect him to move in this window.
"The real apple of their eye is Alexander Isak, certainly for Mikel Arteta. But we know how difficult that will be, if possible at all. So Zubimendi is a midfielder that they’ve pursued for longer than anybody."
Alexander Isak record against Arsenal
Arsenal really like Isak as a player, and it's not hard to understand why.
Indeed, Isak has been a thorn in the Gunners' side this season, scoring twice against the north London club as Newcastle have beaten Arsenal twice in two meetings.

Isak has shown Mikel Arteta in front of his very eyes that he's a top striker, but, of course, getting Isak out of Newcastle is a different story.
Newcastle have ambitions of their own, and make no mistake about it, Isak is central to the Magpies' plans going forwards.
Arsenal may want to sign Isak more than any other striker right now, but a deal to sign the Swedish striker will be very difficult to do.
It's hard to see Isak ending up at Arsenal anytime soon, but, as we've seen in recent years, anything is possible in the transfer market and Arsenal aren't afraid to spend money.
