Neco Williams deletes post after Nottingham Forest beat Southampton
Today at 01:00 PM
Nottingham Forest defender Neco Williams has deleted a message he posted to fans on social media after their victory over Southampton.
The 23-year-old played the full match against Southampton as the tricky trees survived a late surge from the Saints to win 3-2 on Sunday (19 January).
Forest got off to a flying start, thanks to a fabulous strike from range, courtesy of Elliot Anderson in the 11th minute.
Callum Hudson-Odoi then doubled the Tricky Trees’ tally, thanks to a Chris Wood assist in the 28th minute.
Wood turned from provider to goalscorer in the 41st minute as the Kiwi striker heading home his 14th league goal of the season.
Southampton fought back late and scored two goals thanks to Jan Bednarek and Paul Onuachu, but it was in vain as Forest managed to cling on.
Nottingham Forest continue their surprising Premier League title-challenge
Coming in to the 2024/25 season, Forest were considered a team in real danger of being relegated after finishing 17th last year.
However, the Garibaldis have had a flying start this year, and 22 games in look like serious title-contenders.
The outside contenders now sit just six points behind Liverpool, and are only behind Arsenal – who sit second – on goal difference.
After the game, Williams made a post on his Instagram, which has seemingly since been deleted, saying: “Another 3 [points] another enjoyable game, apart from the last 10 mins.”
The reasons for the post being deleted are still a mystery at this time.
Forest will be keen to continue their good form this season, and Mick Brown has exclusively told Football Insider to “not be surprised” if they make moves in the January transfer window.
In other news, Liverpool are very interested in signing one of Forest’s superstars.
