It feels like the Premier League season has only just started, but we're already nearly a third of the way through the campaign.

Indeed, we're a decent way into the Premier League season, and the table is starting to take shape.

Liverpool are the clear frontrunners at the moment, but as we've seen in years gone by, anything can happen from this point.

Speaking on Stick to Football, Gary Neville has been revisiting his pre-season title predictions.

Neville picked Arsenal to win the league before the start of the season, and he says that he's sticking with the Gunners as his champions.

Predictably, this led to jeers from Jamie Carragher who ripped Neville's claim to shreds.

Jamie Carragher disagrees with Gary Neville's Arsenal claim

Carragher was far from impressed by the fact that Neville refused to change his mind.

Carragher made a great point, claiming that Neville wouldn't pick Arsenal to win the league in a 27-game season with a nine-point deduction, which is basically what they face from here on in.

"My point is that after 10 games I am not going to change my title winners. I think Arsenal have had as bad as it could get. Sendings off, injuries, it will not get as bad in the next 20 games for Arsenal," Neville said.

"How do you know?"

"We are predicting here by the way! I am not going to change my title winners after 10 games, because I think Arsenal are a better team than Liverpool. Do you think they are a better team than Liverpool?" Neville asked.

"No. Why are people obsessed with sticking with the team they picked at the start of the season? The Premier League season is 27 games, and Arsenal start the season with a nine point deduction, would you choose them to win the league? No you wouldn't. Let's move on!" Carragher said.

"At the end of the season when Arsenal have won the league we'll be laughing, you don't change your mind on something after 10 matches!" Neville said.

Can Arsenal win the league?

Carragher tore Neville's argument apart, but the big question is, can Arsenal win the league from here?

Of course, mathematically, this is still possible, but no team has ever overturned this kind of deficit after 11 games to become champions.

Eventual championsPoints deficit overturned after 11 games
Blackburn Rovers – 1994/958
Manchester United 2002/038
Mancester United 2008/098
Manchester City 2013/146
Manchester City 2020/216

Of course, those stats are damning, but we have seen more unlikely title wins in the past in a shorter timespan.

Let's not forget Manchester City overtook Arsenal in the 2022/23 season despite being eight points behind in mid-January.

Meanwhile, City overturned the same deficit against Manchester United in 2011/12 with just weeks of the season to go.

There are going to be plenty of twists and turns in this race, and Arsenal can still win the league if they go on a very strong run from here, but there is very little room for error from here on in for Mikel Arteta's side.
