Nottingham Forest are through to the fourth round of the FA Cup after beating Luton Town 2-0 at the City Ground on Saturday.

Ryan Yates opened the scoring for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side when he headed home from Ramon Sosa’s cross in the 40th minute.

Sosa then got on the scoresheet himself in the second half as he fired past Hatters goalkeeper Thomas Kaminski from close range on 68 minutes.

A great afternoon for Nottingham Forest and their supporters was made even better by Danilo’s long-awaited return to action for the Reds.

The Brazilian had been sidelined since the opening day of the Premier League season, when he suffered a broken ankle in the game against Bournemouth.

The City Ground was singing Danilo's name throughout the second half as the fans waited for his return to action.

When it became clear that the midfielder was about to be brought off the bench, Forest fans started singing his name.

Danilo duly came on in the final few minutes of the game as he replaced James Ward-Prowse as the home fans all rose to their feet.

Just as Forest fans were buzzing at the City Ground, so too were supporters on social media.

Nottingham Forest fans delighted with Danilo return

Forest fans wrote about how good it was to see Danilo back and named his return to action as one of the highlights of what was a very good day for the Reds.

One fan wrote: “Seeing Danilo back playing in the Garibaldi red is all this game was about for me! The king is back.”

Another said: “Highlight of the game has to be seeing Danilo back on the pitch and the amazing reception he received.”

One fan spoke about all the good points of the day, saying: “What makes a great day?

“7th win on the bounce, beating plucky little Luton, Danilo back, Yates scoring, Brentford getting beaten by Plymouth!”

Another said: “It shows our squad depth today. Comfortable win while resting most that’ll start on Tuesday.

“Capped the day by seeing Danilo return from his horrific season opening injury.”

Another added: “Honestly didn’t expect to see Danilo again this season, so fantastic to see him come on today.”

What Nuno Espirito Santo said about Danilo after the match

Nuno spoke of the “beautiful” moment when the Forest fanbase welcomed Danilo back into the fold during the game.

"It was beautiful. When he came to the touchline, immediately all our fans started singing. It was beautiful," Nuno said, as per the Nottingham Post.

"It is good to have him around. He is not 100 percent yet, as you can see. But slowly, he can become a good option for us."
