On Thursday, Tottenham Hotspur’s Cristian Romero had to be replaced after the first half of Argentina’s defeat to Paraguay.

La Albiceleste manager Lionel Scaloni manager stated the 26-year-old couldn’t continue, without specifying the nature of the setback. On Friday, Cadena 3 reported the centre-back was doubtful to face Peru in the World Cup qualifiers tomorrow [local time].

The Argentina football association took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to state that the Tottenham star has been withdrawn from the squad to face Peru.

They didn’t mention the details of the defender’s injury, and La Nación provides more on this case.

Earlier this month, the former Atalanta man picked up an injury in Tottenham’s win over Aston Villa. He missed Spurs’ Europa League defeat to Galatasaray and played the full 90 minutes in the league loss to Ipswich Town.

Romero has been struggling with a foot injury, which he picked up against the Villans. La Nación state he arrived for this international break with discomfort. This is the reason he couldn’t be on the pitch beyond 45 minutes against Paraguay.

It’s claimed the player has already said goodbye to his Argentina teammates, to return to Tottenham. He will ‘continue his recovery’ with the north London club.

TyC Sports claim Scaloni took Romero off against Paraguay to avoid aggravating the problem. They also report about his return to Tottenham, to continue his recovery.

On November 23rd, Spurs face Manchester City and Ange Postecoglou will be hoping Romero can in contention for this clash.
