'Off the boil': Jamie Redknapp claims two Tottenham players have got so much worse this season

Although Tottenham Hotspur were able to rescue a late win against Coventry City on Wednesday evening, the game was indicative of the club's poor start to the new season.

Ange Postecoglou made several changes but still fielded a strong and exciting Tottenham side, spearheaded by Dominic Solanke.

Postecoglou was impressed with Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall who both got a chance from the start, an opportunity to build on their excellent work in pre-season.

Despite the strength of their eleven, Tottenham weren't able to dominate the game throughout, and Coventry often exploited their opposition in behind.

And whilst Postecoglou will ultimately be pleased with the victory – keeping alive a strong chance to win a trophy, there's clearly a lot of progress to be made.

Destiny Udogie and Yves Bissouma told they’ve gone backwards at Tottenham

That being said, whilst speaking during Sky Sports' coverage after Spurs' 2-1 win, Jamie Reknapp took umbrage with both Destiny Udogie and Yves Bissouma for their poor starts to the season.

Incidentally, Udogie was praised for his Arsenal display, one of very few Tottenham players to emerge with any credit from the 1-0 defeat.

But after he was subbed off at half-time against Coventry, Redknapp was severely underwhelmed.

Redknapp said: "Too many players have gone off the boil. I look at Udogie, he has gone off the boil. Bissouma, the levels he started last season.

"Lots of players haven't found their form for whatever reason, I can't put my finger on it. But the manager has to get that back into the players and get their confidence back.

"Get them playing in a way they can flourish because right now they look like they are just having a bit of a moment."

Djed Spence deserves more opportunities at Tottenham

Whilst it's fairly easy to criticise Tottenham players right now, there are still a few that deserve credit.

Dejan Kulusevski has made the most of almost every opportunity handed to him by Postecoglou this season, a player who looks so motivated to make a difference.

And in truth, the same could be said for Djed Spence who scored the all important equaliser on Wednesday evening.

Postecoglou sent a message to Spence after he left him out of his Europa League squad recently.

And following his cameo against Coventry, it seems like a particularly peculiar decision, a player who could be crucial were Udogie or Pedro Porro injured.
