Tottenham Hotspur have won their last two games in the Premier League after what was a lukewarm start to the new season, with their 3-0 win against Manchester United seen as a massive result.

While Ange Postecoglou’s side are still tenth in the table, they are just three points behind fourth-placed Chelsea and will look to keep up the momentum in the coming weeks.

The likes of Brennan Johnson, Micky van de Ven and Dejan Kulusevski have impressed in recent weeks, with the latter scoring at Old Trafford to cap off what was a fine performance in midfield.

However, it could be argued that James Maddison has been Tottenham’s best player this year, with the Englishman finally starting to show a bit of consistency.

And Harry Redknapp believes the former Coventry City man was always tipped for stardom right from his early teens.

Maddison represented Coventry, Norwich City and Leicester City before securing a £40m move to Tottenham last summer and has also turned out seven times for England.

Redknapp recalls what he thought of Maddison when he first watched him play as a teenager for Coventry and also spoke about the 27-year-old hopes for England in the future, having missed out on a spot in the squad for Euro 2024.

“I first saw him (Maddison) play at Coventry when he was a kid. I thought, Oh my God, this kid is a star,” said Redknapp on talkSPORT (9:41 AM, Sept 30th).

“He really has got great ability. He has been unfortunate not to get into the Euros squad, but we have got so many players of the same type and they are fantastic, so he missed out. But he is a proper player.

Redknapp also praised Kulusevski, who capped off a stellar display against Manchester United with a clever goal in the second half.

Redknapp continued: “Kulusevski as well. He can play. He gets on the ball, he is a footballer. I love those types of players, and they make things happen, don't they?"

Maddison will have one eye on England recall

Maddison was unfortunate to have missed out on a spot in Gareth Southgate’s squad for Euro 2024, but under interim manager Lee Carsley, things could be a lot different.

He has begun the new campaign in fine form and Carsley has thus far shown that he won’t be afraid to make bold calls, so a re-call could definitely be on the cards for the 27-year-old.

In the team, he’ll just have to focus on continuing his fine form for Spurs as they aim to secure a place in the Premier League top four at the end of the season.
