Juventus’ Douglas Luiz has had a very difficult start to Serie A life after his move from Aston Villa.

He’s been the subject of criticism since day one, and there’s been a queue of people waiting for him to fail, and happily covering the outcomes when he does just that.

Currently injured and out of action for the Old Lady, his life off the pitch hasn’t been going perfectly either after his house was burgled recently.

There has been talk of a premature exit for the ex-Aston Villa man, but some encouragement has now been offered by former Juventus hero Massimo Bonini.

He spoke to TuttoSport about the midfielder and urged to give the Brazilian time, having been impressed by what he managed at Aston Villa.

He said: “I go against the grain. I like him, I think he’s an important player. We have to wait for Douglas because he has great quality.

"English football is very different from ours and it takes time to fit in and settle into a more tactical league like ours. After all, even a champion like Platini took six months to establish himself in Italy."

Conveying his trust for the player, Bonini also had praise for his skillset.

“Absolutely yes. He just needs to recover mentally. The mistakes he made were due to wanting to overdo it. I saw him not very calm and this led him to commit two naive penalty fouls against Leipzig and Cagliari.

"Technically Douglas is strong and very good: he comes out of all the most difficult situations with the ball at his feet. It takes time for him to learn to play as a team – that’s all he lacks.”

It’s about time Douglas Luiz got some backing following his move from Aston Villa, because if Juventus want him to come good then encouragement will help.

The 26-year-old did proved himself under Unai Emery last season, scoring nine times and assisting five times in the Premier League.

This led to the Old Lady spending big on his signing and they can’t be losing trust too early.
