OGC Nice forward Evann Guessand turned down advances from Marseille in the summer transfer window and would have preferred a move to Aston Villa if had to leave.

That's according to Nice Matin, who report that the forward was 'more receptive' to the offer from Aston Villa than the French side.

They explain that Guessand has been earning admirers this season as he shines in Ligue 1, with 11 goals and eight assists in 34 games in all competitions to date.

He's been one of the stars of the season behind the likes of Ousmane Dembélé, Bradley Barcola and Lille's Jonathan David.

The 23-year-old is developing and 'ready to discover a new league' next summer, with clubs around Europe eyeing a move.

That already happened last summer, when Aston Villa made him an offer that he was more than 'receptive' too. In fact, he was more willing to join them than Marseille, who also tried their luck again the winter. He rejected them for a second time, perhaps waiting for a better offer this summer.

Whether that comes from Aston Villa remains to be seen but Nice Matin say the forward's goal now is to finish the season strongly to further increase his popularity in England.
