Mathijs de Ligt is willing to forego a large part of his Bayern Munich salary to seal a move to Manchester United this summer.

That's according Fussball News, who say the Dutchman is willing to play his part to help facilitate a reunion with Erik ten Hag.

They report that the flirtation between De Ligt and Manchester United is getting hotter and hotter and while the defender probably doesn't want to discuss a transfer until after Euro 2024, talks are happening behind the scenes.

His advisor is working on the potential deal between Manchester United and Bayern Munich and according to Fussball News' information, the Dutchman is willing to earn less than he currently does with the German giants.

De Ligt is believed to earn around €15m per year in Munich but Manchester United officials want to keep his gross salary below €1m per month.

Thus, there is work to be done to find an agreement but the 24-year-old's willingness to lower his wages can make that happen.

Bayern are absolutely open to a sale and Fussball News report that they've shown a willingness to let De Ligt go for a total package worth €50m.

They have initially demanded well over that sum while Manchester United opened the bidding at around €40m, so there was a big gap to be closed. Now they're getting closer, and a possible model would be a high base figure with bonuses and a resale percentage for Bayern.

The deal is not yet close to being finalised, but it is being worked on and talks between the various parties are 'fair and constructive', meaning there is a distinct possibility that it happens.
