Arsenal and Manchester City played out a 2-2 draw at the Etihad Stadium in a game that saw frustrations boil over for both sets of players.

Leandro Trossard’s red card and Rodri’s injury led to lengthy stoppages in the first half but as Arsenal aimed to hold their lead after the interval, they were accused of time wasting.

Nevertheless, they conceded a late equaliser to John Stones in the dying embers of the game and things got a little heated at the full-time whistle as footage showed Erling Haaland appearing to tell Mikel Arteta to ‘stay humble’.

The Arsenal boss was visibly furious and said after the game that he expects at least 100 red cards in the Premier League this season after Trossard’s sending-off.

And Michael Owen did not agree with Arteta as he cried foul over the referee’s decision.

The former England international feels the decision to send off Trossard was the right one and also pointed out that Riccardo Calafiori’s goal should have been ruled out as Kyle Walker was summoned by the referee to have a chat.

“Great game yesterday but Arteta's reaction and comments after were poor yet again, wrote Owen on X.

“It was a certain red card for Trossard. The only team hard done by was City as Michael Oliver allowed the game to restart a couple of seconds too early in the lead-up to Arsenal's equaliser.”

Arteta well within his rights to make such comments

After conceding a last-minute equalizer, it’s not hard to see why Arteta reacted the way he did as Arsenal nearly got three points against the champions despite going down to ten men.

The Arsenal boss let his emotions get the better of him but moments such as these are not worth micro-analysing as it is a part and parcel of competitive sport.
