Aston Villa were busy in the summer transfer window and have also been active in the January market.

Villa swooped for Donyell Malen from Borussia Dortmund earlier this month before signing Andres Garcia from Levante.

Aston Villa have also been busy on the outgoings front, selling Diego Carlos to Fenerbahce as Jhon Duran continues to be linked with a move away.

Unai Emery, speaking ahead of Sunday’s Premier League home meeting with West Ham, explained why the Villans moved for Garcia.

Unai Emery says Andres Garcia signing is a ‘really good opportunity’ for Aston Villa

Emery, speaking to the Villa media team, explained how Garcia was “progressing so quick” at Levante, and also said he’s known the player for some time.

The Villans boss also said the club will take their time with the 21-year-old as he looks to acclimatise to the Premier League and develop further.

"He is a right full-back, potential, young player,” said Emery. “He was progressing so quick, and I knew him before. I know how he was doing, as a person as well.

"We decided to sign him because we were thinking it was a good opportunity, just in this moment, a really good opportunity, how he is progressing so quick in his career.

"And of course, being a potential young player, we are not in a hurry with him.

"Hopefully, with Andres Garcia, we can progress quick in his adaptation, and how he can understand everything in the Premier League about the level we have."

Villa will look to improve squad ‘until the last moment’ of the January transfer window

Emery also told the Villa media team that they are open to making new signings, particularly since Carlos has left B6 and needs to be replaced.

The Villans boss even hinted that there could be transfer activity right until the transfer deadline at 11pm on Monday 3 February.

"We are open to trying to improve the squad until the last moment, and as well, we are open in case someone is leaving,” said Emery.

"Of course, Diego Carlos left in the last week, and we have to replace him, and of course we are as well focusing on which players could be potential players to replace Diego Carlos."
