Liverpool are in talks with a number of players over extending their contracts at the club.

The Reds have gone through a lot of change over the last year. Michael Edwards returned to the club and then appointed Richard Hughes as their new sporting director.

The two of them took on the responsibility of replacing Jurgen Klopp and their decision to appoint Arne Slot has proved to be a genius move.

The focus since the end of the last transfer window has been on players’ contracts, and Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk have dominated the news.

However, Liverpool are in talks with another one of their important players over a new deal.

Fabrizio Romano shares update on Ibrahima Konate’s new Liverpool contract

Liverpool signed Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig in the summer of 2021.

The France international hasn’t always had it easy at Anfield, but he has developed into one of the best centre-halves in the Premier League.

Konate became a regular under Slot as soon as he arrived. He played every single game in the Premier League and the Champions League until he suffered a knee injury in November.

The 25-year-old has been on the sidelines since, and it looks like Liverpool have used this opportunity to discuss his future.

Reports previously claimed that Liverpool want to tie Konate down to a new deal. His current contract expires in the summer of 2026.

Fabrizio Romano has now shared an update on the defender’s future, and there’s good news for Liverpool fans.

“Ibrahima Konate will extend his contract at Liverpool really, really soon,” Romano said on the Men in Blazers podcast.

What Fabrizio Romano said about Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk’s contracts

A new deal for the ‘outstanding‘ Konate is great news – the Frenchman is a really important part of Liverpool’s squad.

But, almost every Reds fan’s wish this Christmas would be to see Van Dijk, Salah and Alexander-Arnold extend their contracts.

TBR Football confirmed that Liverpool are locked in talks with Van Dijk, Salah and Alexander-Arnold over new deals, and Romano has now backed our claim.

The journalist claimed that he thinks two of the big three will end up extending their contracts – the only doubt is Alexander-Arnold, who Real Madrid will ‘attack’ to sign in 2025.

But, Liverpool have not given up and are continuing talks with the right-back to keep him at the club.
