Regret may be creeping in as player stars at Wolves – From 'ostracism' to 'revelation' at Molineux
Today at 08:36 AM
We've all done things we regret and for Atlético Madrid, that may be selling Matheus Cunha to Wolverhampton Wanderers.
That's at least according to AS, who cover the player today and how he's gone from 'ostracism' at Atlético to being a 'revelation' of the Premier League at Wolves.
They look at the forward today after he continued his fine form over the weekend, taking him to four goals and three assists in his last four games for Wolves. He's very much their star, a stark contrast given he only even started 11 games for Atlético.
Cunha is showing a 'protagonist version' of himself that was rarely seen in Spain and is now Wolves third top goal scorer in the Premier League era with 22 goals.
Atlético were always aware of his talent and paid €30m for him in 2021 but were happy to sell to Wolves when they came calling. They got €50m from that, which was an 'important investment' but has now left them a little sad as they knew the forward still had 'a lot of future ahead of him'.
That regret is certainly growing as they see that Cunha has as many goals as Cole Palmer this season, and he's one of the stars of the Premier League.
They even speculate that a big move could be on the cards before too long, with Cunha's star rising and his performances undoubtedly being noticed.
That's something Wolves will be aware of but for now they're just happy to have their star man, while Atlético look a little wistfully at what might have been.
