Chelsea look to have finally settled with their squad under Enzo Maresca and that could mean a few players are on the chopping block in the January transfer window.

After a frantic last few windows, Maresca seems to have put his foot down on proceedings and insisted on working with a smaller squad.

So far, it’s worked a treat for the former Leicester manager, who has seen his side climb to fifth after their win over Newcastle at the weekend.

Still, there is work to be done at Chelsea when it comes to PSR and FFP and that’s likely to mean players need to be sold and moved on.

And according to reports in Italy, one Chelsea player is already being lined up for a January move to AC Milan.

AC Milan could move to sign Carney Chukwuemeka in January

According to a report from Calciomercato, AC Milan are already working on some January action and see Carney Chukwuemeka as a potential signing.

The young midfielder cost Chelsea around £20m but he is one of the players to fall foul of Maresca working with a smaller group and his chances have been limited.

However, he could get a reprieve with a January move to Milan, with the report suggesting that AC Milan director Geoffrey Moncada has an ‘obsession’ with the Chelsea starlet.

Of course, the report is caveated with the fact that Milan will only move for Chukwuemeka if they manage to move some non-EU players on.

For Chukwuemeka himself, a move would be welcomed given his lack of game time and of course, the fact Milan are one of Europe’s greatest clubs.

Barcelona have also expressed an interest in Chukwuemeka but Hansi Flick apparently vetoed the deal.

Chukwuemeka needs to go and play football

It’s pretty clear that Enzo Maresca doesn’t really see Carney Chukwuemeka as part of his plans and a move away now looks the likely outcome.

A move to AC Milan would be quite the result for the former Aston Villa man though and if this interest is genuine, he’ll no doubt push for it.

The likes of Ruben Loftus-Cheek have gone to Milan and done well so Chukwuemeka will see it as a great chance to go and have success.

Sadly for him, he’s just one of a number at Chelsea who were never really going to be the main men.
