Dan Burn has proved a revelation for Newcastle in recent seasons and his sheer size makes him hard to miss.

But as his crunching tackles and dressing room dances keeps him in the spotlight, many fans have been surprised to find out that the Magpies’ 6ft 7in colossus is actually missing a finger!

The spotlight has been shone on Burn since he sealed a £13million move from Brighton back to his boyhood club in the 2022 January transfer window.

The 32-year-old instantly installed himself as a rock at the back for Eddie Howe’s Newcastle, making over 100 appearances for the club.

However, every time Burn appears on television screens the same question continues to surface from fans watching at home.

Burn is closing in on 500 senior career games but surprisingly the story of his phalanx has nothing to do with football.

According to reports, the former Fulham star is without his ring finger following an accident he was involved in as a teenager.

Back when he was just 13, Burn was wearing a ring while climbing a fence when it caught on a spike, as per The Free Library.

The gruesome incident led to his finger being ripped off which must have been a horrific moment for the youngster.

But Burn has more than overcome the adversity to make it as a professional and eventually become a fan-favourite at St James’ Park.

Burn, from Blyth, Northumberland, is a stalwart of Howe's side and recently spoke out about his future.

He said: "I'd love to finish my career here.

"I've moved back home now, my kids are back with their family, we get to see our family a lot and it was always the plan to finish my career here.

"We've just got to wait and see on that, we've got a lot of very good players here and we're going in that upward trajectory so you've got to keep trying to go for as long as you can.

"I feel like I've been playing well, I'm not a player who is just going to be happy being a good trainer and sitting on the bench.

"I want to play and I do believe I can be playing in this team."
