Liverpool's midfield is working like a well-oiled machine at the moment.

Indeed, the Reds' trio of Alexis Mac Allister, Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai are playing brilliantly, but Liverpool are still on the lookout for further midfield additions.

Indeed, Arne Slot's side had a very well-publicised pursuit of Martin Zubimendi this summer, and while that didn't come off, Liverpool are still in the market for another midfielder.

According to Christian Falk, Liverpool are interested in a young midfield talent from the Bundesliga by the name of Merlin Rohl.

Liverpool are interested in Merlin Rohl

According to Falk, Liverpool are keen on signing Freiburg's Merlin Rohl.

At the age of just 22, this is a young player with bags of potential, and he has all of the physical attributes to be a Premier League success story.

Standing at 6 ft 3, Rohl is a dominator in the middle of the park, he's an incredibly strong player with the skills to boot.

Indeed, while Rohl may be a big presence in the midfield, he's also fantastic on the ball.

Who is Merlin Rohl?

Liverpool fans would be forgiven for not knowing too much about this young man, but this is a player that everyone may know about in a few years' time.

Indeed, Rohl looks like a potential star, and his coaches have shared the same sentiment in the past.

“He fought his way into [Freiburg’s] team. That’s not easy. He focused on defensive work and also came into his own offensively. He’s very quick and determined. He’s very dangerous," Germany U21 head coach Antonio Di Salvo once said.

Meanwhile, his former coach at Ingolstadt said: “Merlin’s the complete midfielder. He can do it defensively and offensively.”

This is a young man who could be headed to the very top of the game, and Liverpool could well be his next destination.

This is certainly a situation to keep an eye on as we head into the January transfer window.
