Liverpool are already making plans for the January transfer window.

The Merseysiders are flying high under newly-appointed manager Arne Slot as they sit top of the Premier League table.

Liverpool have won nine of their opening 11 games and there’s a genuine chance of winning the title this term, with Manchester City and Arsenal both faltering.

Slot’s set to be given funds to spend in Janaury, too, and it’s thought he’s keen on signing a playmaker to bolster his ranks.

With that said, an update has just emerged about Lyon’s Rayan Cherki, who they’ve already submitted a bid for.

Liverpool need to up bid by £12m for Rayan Cherki

TBR Football reported earlier this week that Liverpool have submitted a £17m bid for Lyon’s Rayan Cherki.

That offer is set to be rejected by the French outfit, as they’re hoping to hold out for a fee in the region of £29m.

So if Liverpool up their bid by a further £12m, there’s a real chance of landing Cherki’s signature this winter.

Lyon have been provisionally relegated to the second tier of French football after falling into financial hardship, so they could be forced to sell their prized asset for a discounted fee.

Cherki compared to Eden Hazard

French football expert Martin Mosnier compared Cherki to Chelsea legend Eden Hazard back in 2023.

"He's really an attacking midfielder although he can also play as a left winger,” Mosnier told TNT Sports.

"Cherki is an exceptional dribbler, one of the first things one notices when watching him is that he appears to be ambipedal, as he can seemingly utilise both feet equally well.

"His strengths are as follows: key passes, dribbling and his ability to create something out of nothing."

Mosnier added: "He could very well become a Premier League star like Eden Hazard, but I think it's still too early for him to leave."
