Report: What Arsenal sources are now saying about Gabriel Jesus' injury after missing Aston Villa win

Before Arsenal kicked a ball against Aston Villa on Saturday, the fan base was already rocked from news of another Gabriel Jesus injury.

Jesus has missed long periods of football during his first two seasons at Arsenal, often fueling talk that Mikel Arteta needs to recruit a new number nine.

Fortunately, Kai Havertz is doing a superb job of leading the line right now, but he can't do it all on his own.

Eddie Nketiah is close to leaving Arsenal, but following news of Jesus' injury, there was talk of that deal being delayed, at least until the club's medical team fully assess the issue.

Jesus picked up a groin injury before Villa, meaning he didn't travel with the squad for their emphatic 2-0 win.

Of course, it would seem counterproductive if Arsenal decided not to sell Nketiah because of Jesus' injury – the club have worked very hard to find a buyer over the last few months.

And fortunately, via an update from The Athletic, it seems as if Nketiah's deal should still be able to go ahead.

Arteta shared on Saturday that Jesus would undergo an MRI scan to determine the severity of his groin injury.

However, the aforementioned report says that initial indications believe that the Brazilian's issue isn't serious.

Jesus is only expected to miss a 'short period' and could perhaps return following the upcoming international break.

Arsenal face Brighton & Hove Albion at the Emirates before then, a game Havertz can happily lead the line for once again.

Of course, some may feel that it would still be a risk to let Nketiah leave this month and then fail to bring in a recruit before the window closes.

If Arsenal don't sign a striker and Jesus then suffers another injury or his problem worsens, Arteta's title push would already be in question.

Jesus returned in brilliant shape for Arsenal pre-season, but it doesn't appear unfair to describe the striker as 'injury prone' at this stage.

Arsenal supporters would love nothing more than a fully fit Jesus contributing all season long, but it's just a question of whether that will ever be a reality – it hasn't been yet.
