Brentford defender Rico Henry has taken to social media to send a message to fans after the 2-2 draw with Manchester City.

The 27-year-old came off the bench in the 87th minute to make his first Premier League appearance of the season after an injury he suffered in September 2023.

Phil Foden opened the scoring for the reigning Premier League champions in the 66th minute, before scoring his second of the night in the 78th minute to make it 2-0.

Despite City looking like they were about to register a third league win in a row, Brentford had other ideas.

Yoane Wissa hammered home from close range, getting on the end of a Mads Roerslev cross to pull the Bees within one goal of the Sky Blues.

In the 92nd minute, the comeback was completed as Christian Norgaard leapt above City’s challenging defenders to get on the end of a Keane Lewis-Potter cross.

Despite having won only one of their last six Premier League games, the draw against City (14 January) will feel like a huge moment for Brentford as they look to turn around their poor mid-season form.

Rico Henry return will be a huge boost to Brentford

Having joined the club in 2016 from Walsall, Henry has been a hugely influential figure for the side from West London, featuring over 200 times.

The former England U20 international has been unbelievably consistent for Thomas Frank’s since their promotion to the Premier League in 2021 and will offer as a good alternative to young Lewis-Potter at left-back.

Posting a message to the Bees’ fan’s on Instagram, Henry said: “Unbelievable feeling being back out there with the boys last night! Want to thank everyone that has pushed me during the long period I’ve spent on the sidelines! Also to the fans that have been patient I owe you one. Good point in the end! Onwards and upwards.”

The Bees have already let go of one of their defenders in Val Adedokun this January, so the return of Henry could not have come soon enough.

Frank will be hoping to keep the core of his side that has performed well in the Premier League this season, as star-man Bryan Mbuemo is linked with a move to Arsenal.

In other news, Ivan Toney reacted to a Brentford star’s “mentality”.
