Switzerland have suffered a blow as Manchester City’s Manuel Akanji has been forced to be withdrawn from the squad for November’s international break.

Murat Yakin, the Nati manager, had called up the centre-back to face the Serbia and Spain in the UEFA Nations League.

The Manchester City player is struggling with adductor problem, and this has now been confirmed by the Switzerland football association’s official website.

The 29-year-old is one of the four players to withdraw from the national team squad for the upcoming two fixtures.

Akanji is most likely to return to Manchester City where he will continue to focus on his recovery. He made 14 appearances in all competitions for the Premier League winners this season.

Pep Guardiola had confirmed the defender picked up a knock in the Citizens 4-1 defeat to Sporting in the Champions League on November 6th. Akanji was an unused substitute in Manchester City’s Premier League defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion at the weekend.

The Switzerland international becomes the second Manchester City player, after Portugal’s Matheus Nunes, to withdraw from international duty today. This certainly won’t please Guardiola and his side.
