Arsenal defender Gabriel Magalhaes started at the back for Brazil as they secured a thumping 4-0 win against Peru in a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier.

Raphinha’s brace either side of halftime gave them a commanding lead, but Andreas Pereira and Luiz Henrique added late goals to add gloss to the scoreline as Dorival Jr’s side showed their class at home.

Gabriel has been one of the best defenders in world football this season and played an important role at the back in their 2-1 win against Chile.

This time around, it was more of a routine win for the hosts as he barely had anything to do in defense.

Brazil were so untroubled at the back that Gabriel, along with his centre-back partner Marquinhos, didn’t have anything to do, while Ederson was a mere spectator between the sticks.

Peru were so toothless in attack and had just one shot on target as they failed to build on their 1-0 win against Uruguay in their previous encounter.

Globo rated the Arsenal defender six out of ten, saying: “Safety in the few aerial attempts by the Peruvians and simplicity in getting the ball out.”

Gabriel was also rated 6/10 by the national media for his performance against Chile as he capped off the international break by playing 180 minutes and spearheading his side to six points out of six.

Gabriel’s stats vs Peru

Gabriel had 81 touches of the ball and boasted a pass percentage of 95% (69/73) as he finished the game with a Sofascore rating of 7.2.

He completed four long balls and won two duels in what was a walk in the park for him at home.

Gabriel will now take a long flight back to England and is expected to start for Arsenal when they come up against Bournemouth on Saturday.
