Michail Antonio holds a special place in West Ham history.

Antonio may not be the most decorated or most talented player to ever pull on a claret and blue shirt, but he has scored more Premier League goals for West Ham than any other player.

However, that record is coming under considerable threat.

Jarrod Bowen has been scoring at a brilliant rate for West Ham for a little while now, and he's closing in on Antonio quickly.

Speaking on The Rest is Football, Antonio has been discussing the fact that Bowen is breathing down his neck on the West Ham scorers list, and he joked that he wants Bowen to be sold in order to preserve his record.

Michail Antonio jokes he wants Jarrod Bowen sold

Antonio joked that he wants Bowen to leave West Ham in order to preserve his record.

Interestingly, the £18m man has been linked with a move away from West Ham.

Newcastle were keen on Bowen in the summer, while Liverpool have been linked with Bowen in the past.

"It means everything to be fair. I’m actually so happy that I am. When I first came to the club, I didn’t think it was even an option.

"I didn’t realize the numbers that were there. It’s very frustrating now that Jared Bowen is so close.

"He’s like 20 goals behind me. He’s got five years left on his contract. So I’m like, someone needs to sign him. Someone needs to sign him right now."

Who are West Ham's record scorers in the Premier League?

Antonio is worried that Bowen will take his record, and, to be honest, that looks inevitable now.

Bowen is closing in on Antonio, and with so long left on his contract, he has plenty of time to break his teammates' record.

That said, West Ham's current form is very worrying, and if they are sucked into a relegation battle, Bowen may not have the chance to break Antonio's record.

As for Bowen's future, Michail Antonio doesn't actually want the winger sold.

Antonio said Bowen would cost a fortune when he heard of Liverpool's interest last year, and he's in no rush to see West Ham weakened by selling one of their best attacking talents.
